Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez, Greco-Roman world champion, was chosen the top male athlete of 2010 in Cuba, and the best woman athlete was Yargelis Savigne. Cuba's men¿s volleyball team was named best team.

Jorge Polo, Vice President of the Cuban Sports Institute, praised Lopez, who won his fourth world champion title in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 120-kilogram category.

Mijaín Lopez, who won a gold medal in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, is a favorite to excel in the London 2012 Olympics.

He won his latest prize a few months ago, when he was victorious in the Moscow 2010 World Championship. Although he had surgery at the beginning of the season, he did not allow his opponents to score any points in five bouts.

Savigne stood out by winning the silver medal in triple jump in the Indoor World Championship held in Qatar. The Cuban volleyball team lost 3-0 to Brazil in the world championship final, also in Qatar.

Cuban sports journalists and officials from the Cuban Sports Institute voted in the selection of the best athletes of the year.
